Girls & Dolls, a film and photographic portrait series, explores the impact of dolls on girlhood, identity, and modern femininity. By documenting and interviewing girls and women about their personal doll collections, as well as re-imagining the connection to play in a cinematic form, Girls & Dolls celebrates these objects as an extension of the self. Looking at girlhood from the early stages of being a woman, the work highlights dolls as role models, sources of inspiration, and mirror images of their girl counterparts, brought to life, given character, agency, and possibility, with love and play.
